Student Program
How It Works
Nomination
Once referred, Ginger-Jitsu will contact the trusted adult who made the nomination and together they will determine the student's eligibility, potential of commitment and success, and compatibility with the program.
-
Nominations must be by referral of a trusted adult (e.g. counselor, teacher, pastor, ...)
-
Self-nominations are not accepted
-
Families or individuals may contact Ginger-Jitsu directly to be connected with a partnering BJJ academy, but this is separate from the Student Program nomination process.
Student
Once awarded placement into a Student Program, there is an expectation of commitment from the sponsored student, the student's parent(s)/legal guardian(s), and the referring trusted adult. Ginger-Jitsu requires a 6-month commitment of a minimum of twice-weekly attendance in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) training at a partnering academy.
Student and Parent/Guardian must:
-
Agree to follow Ginger-Jitsu's Student Program guidelines and any other requirements set by the sponsoring academy.
-
Ensure monthly check-ins are arranged with the student's trusted adult nominator.
-
Maintain respectful behavior on the mat, in school, at home, and in the community, reflecting the values of Ginger-Jitsu.
Nominator must:
-
Agree to the level of confidentiality the student and the student's parent(s)/guardian(s) request for involvement in Ginger-Jitsu's Student Program.
-
Agree to remain a reliable point of contact.
-
Provide at least one check-in per month via email. This will be sent and documented via a Google Forms survey. Of course, nominators are encouraged to communicate via email for unscheduled communication of issues, successes, or concerns.
Partner Academy Responsibilities & Loss of Sponsorship:
-
Partnering academies must agree to the level of confidentiality requested by the student and the student's parent(s)/guardian(s).
-
Sponsorship may be terminated if the student repeatedly misses classes without notice, shows a lack of commitment, or disregards the program values. Remaining funds may be redistributed to another Ginger-Jitsu student, ensuring that opportunities remain available to students who are ready and committed.
-
Partnering Academies may not use funds for non-Ginger-Jitsu-related purposes, and doing so will immediately terminate the partnership. If there is not a ready student, the partnering academy must reinvest or return the funds to Ginger-Jitsu.
Graduate
Graduates of the Ginger-Jitsu Student Program are ready to continue their progression in BJJ with confidence and become leaders in their communities with the strength, skills, and discipline learned through their training.
We encourage our students and graduates to take the next step in their journey and earn their Ginger-Jitsu Leadership Patch through our Patch Program. Participants in this program learn to become mentors and leaders in their communities and among their peers through activities that promote personal growth and community involvement.
